Words of workout wisdom;
I was reading an article in ironman magazine, may 2006 issue, and i came across a sidebar with some great tips from former mr. olympia larry scott. You younger lifters probably are not familiar with the name but if you have ever used a preacher bench in your biceps workout, then you should be aware that larry scott invented a variation of that bench and made it famous. Not to forget the fact that he built himself amazing biceps while incorporating the bench as well as scott curls into his workouts! The article is too long to include everything i want to include so i will touch upon a couple today and continue another day with the tips.
BENCH PRESSES-When you do bench presses, your chest and triceps do the work. The key is to disconnect the triceps and make the pecs do all the work. Here's how: Use a false grip, meaning put your thumb on the same side of the bar as the rest of your fingers, do not wrap your thumb around the bar. While bench pressing, press with the outside bottom of the palms. In addition, try to focus on squeezing your arms closer together as you press the weight upward rather than driving with your triceps. It places all the tension on your pecs rather than your arms.
Just use caution while using the false grip, get used to it with a light weight first and then go back to your normal weight, it is a dangerous way to do any pressing exercise, so use caution!
